Why do people choose therapy?
People usually choose to have therapy because they are experiencing difficulties and distress in their lives. They can sometimes feel isolated, even when surrounded by supportive family and friends. They may find it difficult to explain why they are feeling anxious or depressed. It may be easier to talk about personal, family or relationship issues with a person who is independent of friends or family.
However, you do not have to be in crisis before choosing therapy. You may have some underlying feelings of dissatisfaction with life in general or you may be searching for balance and meaning in your life.
What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?
Counselling tends to be a short term process and will usually focus on finding a satisfactory solution to a specific personal difficulty. Psychotherapy, on the other hand, is usually a longer process which helps a person to examine the deeper roots of their present difficulties with a view to developing a clearer understanding and thereby develop better ways of managing their lives. Counselling and Psychotherapy are a supportive process designed to help you feel you are in charge of your life.
